HEATHER BIGELOW, PMM

Hi! My name is Heather (Knoll) Bigelow. I was born and raised in Appleton, WI the youngest of 5 children. I was baptized and grew in my faith at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Appleton, WI, where I attended school from K-8th grade. I continued my Christian education at Fox Valley Lutheran High School and graduated in 1998. I pursued a teaching degree at Martin Luther College, where I met my husband, Pastor Phil Bigelow. In 2003, I graduated from MLC with a degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, and with a minor in music.
Also in 2003, I married Phil and along the way God has blessed us with three boys, Isaiah, and twins, Elijah and Caleb. I enjoy reading, taking walks, playing piano and flute, and singing, as well as being a part of 2 different women’s retreat committees previously in MI and now here at St. Matthew’s. As a family we enjoy playing board games, camping, and vacationing in Eagle River, WI.
I am so excited and blessed to serve at St. Matthew’s as the new Member Ministry Coordinator and am so thankful for the Lord’s promises of constant love and support that He shares with us in my favorite Bible passage, Isaiah 41:10, “For do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
My job as the new member ministry coordinator will be to help all members of St. Matthew’s to discover and develop their God-given talents so that they in turn can use these gifts for faithful and joyful service in every area of their lives, and build up the body of Christ as we serve God and others.
As the member ministry coordinator, I will be overseeing and coordinating a core team to help carry out the Personal Member Ministry program at St. Matthew’s. This program will include the following eight key components:
- Biblical Foundations
- Culture and Awareness
- Assisting and Assimilating new and active existing members for service
- Creating and Maintaining a time and talents database for all interested members
- Matching and Placement of volunteers with the needs of individual church groups
- Communication
- Equipping members who are serving by providing proper on-boarding training as well as additional learning opportunities to set those serving up for success
- Recognition and Reflection on volunteer accomplishments to encourage those who serve.
