Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society

LUTHERAN WOMEN’S MISSIONARY SOCIETY

Women dedicated to serving Jesus by increasing awareness of, interest in, and support of WELS missions.

Responsibilities:

  • Educate women and our congregation in a variety of ways to increase knowledge and awareness of home and world missions and missionaries.
  • Encourage women to support the work of missionaries through prayers, writings and offerings.
  • St Matthew’s women will collectively maintain membership in the Rock River Circuit and national LWMS.  Offerings are collected twice a year and sent in advance of the Circuit Rallies (see events).
  • Our church is assigned 1 world and 2 home missionaries every two years.  We are asked to pray for and support the three missionaries and their families in light of their needs and our abilities. This program is call Befriend a Mission (BAM).
  • The Rock River Circuit is led by circuit officers.  Women from St Matthew’s are welcome to serve as an officer.

Three LWMS events take place each year:

  1. A spring Circuit Rally usually in April at a church nearby.
  2. The National Convention the last full weekend in June somewhere the US.
  3. A Fall Circuit Rally usually in October at a church nearby.

SHINE will advertise these events.  All women are invited to attend.  This is a great opportunity to get daughters involved, too.
