Eric Paulsen, Seventh Grade / Technology Director

Lesson Plans for Mr. Paulsen

I am the seventh grade teacher at St. Matthew’s Lutheran School and serve as the Technology Director. I also coach some of our athletic teams.

I was born in Willmar, MN. I spent the next three years there before moving to New Ulm, MN when my father, John Paulsen, accepted a call to Dr. Martin Luther College (DMLC) since renamed Martin Luther College (MLC). I attended school in New Ulm for the rest of my formal education, with the exception of one year in State College, PA, while my father attended Penn State. I have a bachelors degree in education and received a call to Oconomowoc upon my graduation in the spring of 1989 and have been teaching here since. St. Matthew’s has always been very supportive of Christian education and the families have been great to work with. I’m now teaching the children of students I had when I first arrived and it is even more special to see that handoff of the gospel from generation to generation.

I am married to Amy (Hennig) Paulsen and we have two sons named Michael and Ian and one daughter named Lauren. Michael and his wife Kinzie are both called workers and serve at St. Paul’s, Norfolk, NE. A fun fact about St. Paul’s, Norfolk, is that the church was founded by members from St. Paul’s, Ixonia. In fact, the design of the church closely resembles St. Paul’s, Ixonia. We have an Ixonia mailing address, and the good people in NE thought it was great that they were assigned someone from their “home” city of Ixonia. Ian is at MLC training to be a teacher and will, Lord willing, graduate in 2020. Lauren is currently in high school but also plans to train at MLC and enter the teaching ministry.

I am an avid outdoorsman, when I can find the time, and enjoy a wide range of activities such as gun and bow hunting, wakeboarding, and motorcycling. Our family spends many enjoyable hours together on the lake and Amy and I love to get away on the motorcycle.

Coaching Experience

I have been coaching since I’ve been here and find it to be one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching. I have coached flag football, basketball for boys and girls, and track. I have coached various YMCA teams as our kids progressed through the grades. I also coached eight years of tackle football for the city of Oconomowoc. I’ve also coached for Playground Elite, an AAU basketball program out of Milwaukee. I’ve been able to reconnect with Jeff and Dante Smith. Jeff was the point guard on our college team. It has been rewarding working with the players in this program.

School Computer Information

Our faculty and staff have Macintosh computers and our students in grades 5-8 are using their own iPads in school. Our faculty has computer inservice sessions as needed. We cover topics ranging from application usage to incorporation into the curriculum. I run the inservice sessions and welcome any feedback from others who also run their school’s inservice.

We added T1 Internet access to our school’s network in 1995. We switched to a higher bandwidth cable connection and now at our new school have a fiber connection. We run several Linux variants in connection with our OS X servers to provide all our network services.
